Our classes are very popular and because you leave our class with your own beautiful succulent bowl, we have many people who come back year after year to attend our classes and make a new bowl. Private classes are extremely popular, and many of our returning classes pre-book up to a year in advance to save their choice dates.

And beginning in 2012, Solar Gardens will once again be offering our popular wood-fired pizza in an upgraded and redesigned summer kitchen. We know that our many pizza-loving customers will be disappointed during 2011 to have to wait another year in order to enjoy our thin-crust Italian style pizzas and calzones, but we know you will love the new space and our improvements to the kitchen which will include a larger rebuilt pizza and bread oven. Because we need the 2011 season to make those changes, you might see our work in progress when you come and visit us. (Feel free to grab a hammer or some bricks to help us out!) And don't be worried if the current pizza oven is no longer there when you visit. We will be building a new oven in its place (carefully brick by brick) through 2011 to be up and ready for 2012.

You will need to pre-register for all classes, which can easily be done by emailing us.

Before registering, please note that children under the age of 16 years and pets of any sort are not allowed at Solar Gardens at any time. Please take this into consideration when booking your class or visit as there are no exceptions to this policy.

Lots of people find that our classes make great gifts for Christmas, Mother’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries, office parties, clubs and just a “girls’ or guys’ day out of the city”. GIFT CERTIFICATES ARE AVAILABLE, either for classes, plants, or retail centre merchandise in any dollar amount you may require. And remember, Solar Gardens Gift Certificates never expire.

Upcoming 2011 Classes

• All classes are offered RAIN (in one of our greenhouses) or SHINE (outside in one of our courtyards).
• Also, please note that you must be at least 16 years of age to register for any class at Solar Gardens
• We accept bookings for all of our classes at any time of the year. Consider reserving early to guarantee your preferred class date(s).
• Every year, our classes fill up and we are unfortunately not able to offer classes to all who request them. Please keep this in mind and try to book early.
• Please wear comfortable shoes (no heels) and clothes, including a hat and sunscreen

1 - Succulent Bowl Classes

Roger's Succulent Care Tip Sheet

Explore the basic principles of arranging and planting a succulent terracotta bowl. You will learn the secrets of growing and caring for some of the most beautiful and rare succulents. Join us at our retail centre where you will be able to choose from some of our favourite succulents. Then let your artistic juices flow as you create your own bowl to take home. The class includes a terracotta bowl and plants.

Our public classes are designed for anyone wishing to join our group class (either alone or with a few friends), but do not meet the criteria for those organizing a private class (see Section 2 below for private class information).

Dates: Sunday May 1st, 15th, 22nd, 29th, June 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th.

Please allow approximately 2 1/2 hours to take the class.
Pre-registering for these dates is a must.

2 - Private Succulent Bowl Classes

We are pleased to offer our private succulent bowl classes if you can organize a group of 5 or more persons. We can accommodate groups of up to 50 people (after that we run out of chairs!). The cost is $45 per person plus taxes, and the date and time can be arranged to suit your schedule. Any day (either an afternoon or evening) from April 1st to July 31st can be arranged.

All classes are offered RAIN OR SHINE.

Please note: Due to the popularity of our private classes and our limited time for these private groups, all private classes are subject to be booked with another group if your group size is between 5 and 15 people. We will make a sincere effort to try not to put your group with others, but if circumstances and smaller group numbers dictate, we reserve the right to do so.

Because private groups are so coveted, if some individuals in your group are unable to attend, we ask that you let us know 48 hours in advance by email so that we can decide if you have an adequate number of people to go ahead with your private class.

Private classes are approximately 2 ½ hours in length and can be booked to start at either 1:00 pm or 5:00 pm. We can be somewhat flexible in starting times if mutually agreed upon at time of booking.

Dates: Almost any afternoon or evening from April 1st to July 31 2010
Pre-registering for these dates is a must.
Time: 1PM or 5PM (or a mutually agreed upon starting time)
Cost: $45.00 per person plus taxes.

3 - Discover the Art of Hypertufa

This class introduces the participant to the fundamental techniques of hypertufa, basic tools, recipes and types of molds. The hands-on class will allow you to develop your skills to create your ideal planter to take home.

Please keep in mind that your project requires time to cure in the mold before you can remove it and take it home. You will need an additional visit to unmold and pick up your project.

Dates: Sunday July 10th, 17th, and 24th
Pick up your project between July 25th and 31st during the week between 10 AM and 5 PM. Pre-registering for these dates is a must.
Time: 1PM to 4PM
Cost: $45.00 per person plus taxes (GST and PST)

4 - Specialty Christmas 2011 Baking and Cooking Classes

This festive season we are pleased to offer a great "get together" party for your group where you can partake in a fun baking or cooking class. As a bonus, you'll have a jump on your holiday preparations as everyone in the class will be taking home what you've made.

Your group can choose from such classes as bread baking, tasty cajun dumpling size meat pies, or Roger's delicious Christmas fruit cake. Best of all, you will easily be able to reproduce all of these recipes in years to come in your own kitchen.

These classes are small and intimate with limited space for gropus of up to 10 people.

All classes will be conducted in our new Solar Gardens restaurant school.
